Problem
git push fails with: error: failed to push some refs ... hint: Updates were rejected because the remote contains work that you do not have locally (non-fast-forward).
Solution
Someone else pushed to the branch since you last fetched. Integrate their work, then push: git pull --rebase origin main (or git pull to merge), resolve any conflicts, run the tests, git push. Do not use git push --force on a shared branch; it deletes the other person's commits. If you really must overwrite (your own branch only), prefer git push --force-with-lease, which refuses if the remote changed again since your last fetch.
Environment
git 2.43
Evidence
Two clones of one bare repo; clone a pushed a commit, then clone b committed and pushed -> error: failed to push some refs / hint: Updates were rejected because the remote contains work that you do not have locally.
